She just didn’t get her just do as an artist of that magnitude or that level.
In his first Rap-Up vlog, Jerkins is already stirring up shock. The Grammy Award-winning R&B producer has revealed this week that icon Janet Jackson has severed ties with her label Def Jam Records.
In the online rumor mill, Ms. Jackson was said to have been dropped from her label, and her man Jermaine Dupri- the president of Island Def Jam’s Urban Music division- is going to leave as well.
“She’s been released,” Jerkins said casually in the vlog uploaded on Sunday. “She’s been released off of Def Jam. She was asking to be released and got released, and it’s a great thing for her because I think her being a free agent, and doing this tour, it’s going to be great for her. And I’m there for her.”
Jerkins, who produced Jackson’s single “Feedback” for her latest album Discipline, explained that Def Jam wasn’t supportive.
“We felt like we made a great record with the record ‘Feedback.’ We felt like we made a great record with a song called ‘Love’ that was supposed to be the second single. But we just felt like we didn’t get the support from the record company. She felt like [the song] wasn’t pushed, I felt like it wasn’t pushed correctly, and she just didn’t get her just do as an artist of that magnitude or that level.”
Jerkins went on to reveal that he offered to do an album with just Jackson, and her long-time production collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Further detail of the potential collaboration was not revealed.
VIBE.com reached out to Def Jam, and received a statement confirming the split. “At her request, the record label has agreed to dissolve their working relationship with the popular artist,” the statement read. “Janet will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label system.”
In June, Jackson aired out her grievances with the label to SOHH.com. The superstar said that Def Jam didn’t promote Discipline, so she wasn’t going to release anymore singles from it.
Jackson is currently still traveling on her nationwide tour ROCK WITCHU.

Yeah I think weak ticket sales have made her cancel her tour. Besides, I don't think that she is in demand anymore. There is a whole new heap of YOUNG female talent out that are blistering the charts. Janet has to take another route, like ADULT Contemporary. She has to leave Juvenile music to the juveniles. That game is over. And let's be real.
And besides she never really was a GOOD singer, only her brother has the pipes, but she has the dream. Sacking Jermaine should keep a little money around if anything.

Janet, Janet, Janet. When will you learn? Jumping from label to label will NOT salvage your career when your music as of 2001 purely stinks. You left Jam & Lewis... What the heck were you think about.? You were begging for career suicide. Do yourself a favor as a 40 + year old woman.... stop acting like you're 20 and putting all sexual business in your music. Second, neva, eva, as long as you're Black and have breath put Jermaine Dupri or Missy Elliott on your disc....It's bound too SUCK... as 'Discipline' ROYALLY did. Third, call Jam & Lewis, apologize to them, and beg them to resuscitate what's left of your career. It's on life support and the time is awfully close to pull the plug. You're possible saving grace....JAM & LEWIS.... Do yourself a favor....CALL THEM, PLEASE!!

Also one more thing. these record companies now days. are looking for people like Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Rihanna, Mariah, Ciara, Cassie that can sell music. also they want people like Little Wayne, Rick Ross, Jay-Z 50 Cent T-Paine
Young Jeezy, and definetly Ne Yo and so many more. you have to sell in the millions down days. I'm your age, more so Michael but nows days your music must sell. its much different from yrs ago. Now days its a lot of competition out there.
